"Das Eyland Ormus oder Jerun"; issued Leipzig: 1748.
A very appealing mid-18th century map showing the island of Ormus (Hormuz) in the Persian Gulf off the coast of Persia. Once a strategic spot with a large fortress. This view depicts a wonderful level of detail, including a remarkably detailed city plan with hundreds of individual buildings, St. Lucia church, forests, the large fortress and many sailing ships.
Certainly one of a mere handful of detailed pre-1800 depictions of the island and one which is a completely different engraving from the Astley voyage image which is similar. Note as well the very decorative framework engraving around this image. Beautifully hand colored.
In VG++ to near fine, mostly clean condition, original fold lines as issued.
Sheet measures c. 10 1/8" W x 9 1/4" H.
