Wonderful large 17th-century folio sheet copper engraved map.  Original outline hand color.

In VG+ to near fine, clean condition, overall a very pleasing visual example.

With the very unusual feature of having historical descriptive text sheets attached seemingly as issued on either side of the map. The dealer we bought this map from was breaking the atlas, and this map as well as several others had this unusual feature. Thus, we believe it was issued this way in the atlas.

A very uncommon map finely engraved and a profusion of detail. To the right of the decorative title cartouche is a world map showing the Eastern Hemisphere, including an enormous and undefined Australia as well as an undefined island above Japan.

Sheet measures c. 40"  x  22".  Image area measures c. 26"  x  19".
