One of the charming miniature Ortelius maps issued in the 17th century, published Venice, 1667 "per Scipion Banca". A pirated (unauthorised) edition of Ortelius' "Theatro del Mondo" (Theatre of the World). A delightful map of this Dutch region, with full expert hand color. A Sea Serpent can be seen at upper left, a tall ship at upper right, a coat of arms held by a seated woman at bottom right and a distance scale at left. Numerous cathedrals dot the countryside. With a strapwork title cartouche. In excellent antiquarian condition with only minor age faults not detracting visually.
